Acting for Film 2020 Classes

The 2020 ACTING CLASS FOR FILM will be eight Sundays, starting April 19 and going through June 14, with a break on May 24.

The class will be held from 11 am to 2 pm at the Riffe Center, 77 S. High Street, Columbus OH 43215.

The classes will cover auditioning for the camera and working with commercial copy as well as scene study work, specifically film and television scenes. Students will learn industry protocols, how to prepare for auditions and how to produce work that will end up in the final edit and not on the editing suite floor. The goal of the scene work will be to help students deliver consistent, honest, and fully present performances and adapt that work to different camera shots (wide, medium, and close-up.) Students will be put on camera throughout the eight weeks by filmmaker Brant Jones and the filming will be used for playback and critique.

The fee for these classes is $250, with half due at the beginning of the class and the remainder due halfway through.

Ian Short is a graduate of Otterbein University and a founding company member of Available Light Theatre. He has performed with Short North Stage, BalletMet, CATCO, and many other Columbus theatre companies.

Ian is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and has appeared in over two dozen film, television and commercial projects, including a principal role in a national G.E. commercial, a main supporting character in the Hallmark film The Christmas Spirit, and a lead supporting character in the feature film Chain of Command.

Brant Jones is a producer and award-winning editor of short films (Recoil, Matters of Great Import, A Way Out). A graduate of the USC School of Cinema, he has spent nearly 20 years in the industry as an actor, filmmaker, and educator.
