2008 Cincy Fringe

That's right, it's that time of year once again.

We missed you in in 2007, Cincy Fringers, so we're back in oh-eight with Jennifer Fawcett's amazing then after water. The Columbus Dispatch called it "one of the year's best" and praised "Available Light's haiku-like production."

The show runs May 29-June 4 at the beautiful Main Street home of the New Stage Collective.

Recognize

Good news in the form of a couple of year-end lists.

In the Columbus Dispatch (and on his blog) Michael Grossberg named then after water one of his ten favorite shows of the year. We're in good company on a list that includes the SITI Company and Cirque du Soleil.

Meanwhile, over in Columbus Alive land, Jay Weitz recognized Tomorrow is the Question as the Best New Work of the year.

Congrats also to AVLT associate Eleni Papaleonardos, who was recognized in the Alive for her stunning performance in Mary Stuart, which Mr. Grossberg also named one of his favorite shows of the year.

then after water press: Columbus Dispatch

A notice in today's paper leads readers to the blog of Michael Grossberg, Columbus Dispatch theatre critic, for our first rave review.

Available Light's "then after water"
A rave review of a poetic U.S. premiere

Why would central Ohio theatergoers drive to a semi-vacant shopping strip in Gahanna and spend about 70 minutes in the nearly empty lobby of a closed bank?
Only to catch one of the year's best theater productions before its short run ends - and to savor the U.S. premiere of a wonderful new play.

VERY LIMITED SEATING

Tickets are onsale now for our next show, then after water by Jennifer Fawcett. We've been developing this script with the playwright for over a year. It's a beautiful love story about the tragic results of a random act of violence.

Shoulder to the grindstone in Indy.

I was in Indianapolis all weekend, working hard on that still-untitled play by Jennifer Fawcett. Jennifer and I convened in Indy because it's something of a half-way point between here and Iowa, where she's a grad student in their Playwrights' Workshop.

Friday and Saturday involved no-stop, all day, bang-your-head against the wall work on the script. It's hard to explain precisely what we were doing - some editting, some reworking, Jenn did a good bit of rewriting on some scenes. "Tightening it up" is an oft-used expression. Although I do believe in some cases we were loosening it.

At any rate, it's still an amazing and beautiful play and Jenn's a hell of a writer, and I can't wait until we produce this bad boy and share it with the world.

It seems the next stop will be a series of readings to workshop the play next month. Stay tuned, as this will probably culminate in a public performance of some type.
