AVAILABLE LIGHT THEATRE

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Website: avltheatre dot com

Performances: October 16-26, 2008

Mission: Available Light is a fellowship of artists dedicated to building a more conscious and compassionate world by creating joyful and profound theatre.

Available Light, which started in 2002 as BlueForms Theatre Group, specializes in creating original, group-written, collage-style shows. In 2006, the group's name and focus shifted. Available Light dedicates half of its resources to plays by "emerging" writers. Says Slaybaugh. "There are number of playwrights creating much more exciting and challenging work than what's seen on most regional stages. Unfortunately, their work isn't yet getting much play outside of New York, L.A., and Chicago."

In its 2007-8 season, Available Light produced regional premieres of plays by Adam Bock, Jennifer Fawcett, and Sheila Callaghan. They also produced a free reading series that included Marisa Wegrzen, Eric Pfeffinger, Adam Szymkowicz, Mark Schultz, Stephen Svoboda, Jason Schafer, and Ann Marie Healy.

Statement: "As the 2008 election approached, and the idea of premiering Militant Language in multiple venues emerged, we realized there could be no more perfect time to produce this beautiful and political play.

"Nothing has more impact on our politics right now than the war in Iraq. Whether you're talking about national security, the economy, or the very philosophy of what the American project should be, you have to talk about the Bushes' escapades in the Middle East.

"Sean brings these issues to bear on individual human beings in the play. They exist as the context of the play, rather than the subject. The play's first priority is telling a compelling story, and that's something Sean does as well as any playwright you can name."
