Samantha Blossom's day moves you from her Upper East Side apartment to a funeral in Queens, from a trendy Midtown magazine deep into an online relationship, before dragging you through the chaos of the meat-packing district club scene as she tracks down a punk-rock genius poet girl and desperately avoids her husband's mistress.

"[DEAD CITY] dissects the line between brilliance and just plain ol' crazy, blurring it even further... impressive." -Village Voice
"A thrilling theatrical trip...awe-inspiring." -Flavorpill

"For a hundred minutes, the city becomes like an oyster filled with infinite pearls... Callaghan has created a fluid, lyrical world that riffs on reality as if it were jazz." -New Theatre Corps
"Weirdly funny and haunting... a jagged stage poem." -Time Out Chicago

Elise is a pyromaniac fire chief who falls in love with Jake, the detective investigating her fires. Carrie, Elise's therapist, is trying to get her to stop lighting fires and Carrie's husband, Gary, is leading the life of a somewhat ineffective corporate spy.

One of Available Light's favorite playwrights returns to the reading series with the funniest play you'll see this year.

A recent graduate of Juilliard's Playwrights program, Adam Szymkowicz is one of the most exciting and beloved playwrights of New York's downtown set. You can catch-up with him at his trend-setting blog right here.

FREE Reading: I Google Myself

If you haven't been attending our TheatreForte Free Reading Series, then you've been missing some of the best fun you can have without sets, lights, and ticket prices.

Up next is a new play by Jason Schafer, who wrote the screenplay of the award-winning indie film Trick and was a writer on the first season of the American television series Queer as Folk.

I Google Myself is the unusual story of three very different men with the same name. One is a gay porn star with a dirty little secret. One is a stoner mechanic who blogs poetry and has anger management issues. And another is a wily stalker with a balloon fetish, desperate to make a connection. Their worlds collide in a chain of events that will leave you asking yourself: what would I do to become a top search term on Google?

From NYtheatre dot com: "I Google Myself is a canny Internet Age thriller, but it's really finally about something eternal in human nature".

As usual, admission is FREE, coffee and cookies provided.

Good news in the form of a couple of year-end lists.

In the Columbus Dispatch (and on his blog) Michael Grossberg named then after water one of his ten favorite shows of the year. We're in good company on a list that includes the SITI Company and Cirque du Soleil.

Meanwhile, over in Columbus Alive land, Jay Weitz recognized Tomorrow is the Question as the Best New Work of the year.

Congrats also to AVLT associate Eleni Papaleonardos, who was recognized in the Alive for her stunning performance in Mary Stuart, which Mr. Grossberg also named one of his favorite shows of the year.

Chicago playwright Marisa Wegrzyn is a face-to-watch in the middle of the country and on the coasts. Her comedy, The Butcher of Baraboo was part of Steppenwolf's 2006 First Look Repertory before opening in Philadelphia and New York. TheaterMania says "Wegrzyn has an already sharpened knack at trotting out lively characters primed to clash with each other the minute they come into the same room."

then after water press: Columbus Dispatch

A notice in today's paper leads readers to the blog of Michael Grossberg, Columbus Dispatch theatre critic, for our first rave review.
Available Light's "then after water"
A rave review of a poetic U.S. premiere

Why would central Ohio theatergoers drive to a semi-vacant shopping strip in Gahanna and spend about 70 minutes in the nearly empty lobby of a closed bank?
Only to catch one of the year's best theater productions before its short run ends - and to savor the U.S. premiere of a wonderful new play.
