The Harrowing Demise of Jeune Lune

domserrand01.jpg Quoth Dominique Serrand of Theatre de la Jeune Lune: "We could not get an endowment. That was made very clear to us - that we were not an institution that people wanted to invest in.."

WHAT?!?!

If that's the case, we're all in deep trouble folks. Minnesota Playlist provides this incredible video interview. He discusses ensembles, financial issues, and the ecology of the arts. Please watch.

Acacia:

I wish more people who are not artists could see this-- Public policy makers, the "princes" of our cities, teachers. I also would love if more of our larger theatre institutions took an interest in the health of our art form, rather than just the health of their own particular organizations. Serrand speaks like someone who cares about both the art and the people who make it, and his words could inspire change. Someone should hire him.
