Why isn't it Theatre with an "r-e"?
Anyway, TCG's Free Night of Theater is October 18, and looking through the regions, it looks like a lot of people will be seeing a lot of shows. That's a good thing. Reports from last year state that 30% of first-time attendees visited a theatre at least once more in the following year. Hooray! Small steps add up to big progress my friends.

Because we don't live in England and we don't watch colour TVs?

I so love that New York isn't a part of this.

Really? I can't quite tell where that falls on the smugness and sarcasm barometers.
I guess the point being that New York doesn't have to give it away to draw people in, right?
Yeah, we know, we know.

No, that was totally sarcastic. For all that New York is supposed to be a cultural haven, an epicenter for creativity (see the way it's touted in this week's New Yorker), it does pretty much all that it can to stifle anything so bold as to actually WELCOME audiences with open arms. Even Broadway often finds itself playing to 70-80% houses (save for the most extravagant of hits), and surely it wouldn't kill Off-Broadway to try something national like this.
