Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

Please contribute to the Contemporary American Theatre Festival and help them excercise our freedom of expression.

Contemporary American Theatre Festival

Let's start by quoting The Playgoer:

Remember Howard Dean and his online $25 clicks adding up? And now Barak Obama has almost outpaced Hillary Clinton with small donations from a wider list of supporters?

Is there some applicable model here, say, for the nonprofit theatre company?

A few months previous to that, Mr. Freeman suggested making small donations part of our holiday giving.

But, think about all the theater companies in NYC, Seattle, San Franscisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia (need I go on) that would not only appreciate a donation, but put it to very good use. That would take a one hundred dollar gift as truly important for not only their next show, but their continuing existence.
In the spirit of these ideas, Mr.Excitement laid out a challenge for bloggers and readers alike when Contemporary American Theater Festival refused to cancel their production of the notorious My Name is Rachel Corrie despite the loss of a major funder.
I encourage everyone to make a contribution to Contemporary American Theater Festival, in support of their commitment to free expression. ... I'd like to see how many people put their money where their mouths are and whether it's possible for the blogosphere to make an impact in this way. At the end of April, I'll report on how successful this campaign has been.

How'd we do? Well, not so well. But, Mr. Excitement has re-posted his challenge with some updates and now the momentum seems to be building.

So, don't just sit there, donate!

And then, check back with Mr. Freeman, who has an idea on how to keep the ball rolling.
