The Rude Mechanical's annual summer theatre workshop for girls (13-16) is now accepting applications. Grrl Action offers the opportunity for girls to work with professional theatre artists to create and perform their own multi-disciplinary performance pieces, based on their own experiences. More information, including application, can be found here. Man, I would've loved something like this in high school...

The Grrl Action Summer Workshop is a three-week intensive in which girls envision, create, and perform original works for the stage based on their own life experiences. Run by Rude Mechanicals, Austin’s award-winning experimental theatre company, Grrl Action is open to any 13 to 16 year-old girl with a strong desire to express herself. Girls who participate are given space, materials, skills, and guidance as they work individually and as a group to generate poems, stories, songs, collages, dances, and drawings from their life experiences. Then, they craft this material into a live performance and a written anthology. No former experience with creative writing or performance is required. Girls work with professional writers, performers, and designers to put their stories on stage for two free public performances.
The Grrl Action Summer Workshop will take place July 2 – 22, 2007. Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 9 am to noon (except on the July 4th holiday). Participants must be present for a dress rehearsal from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, July 21 and for the two public performances on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22 at 2 pm.
