Featured Post: Tracy Letts is Pissed

letts-tracy.jpgTracy Letts, Steppenwolf ensemble member since 2002, and esteemed author of Bug and Man from Nebraska, is Pissed, capital P. He's pissed at The Talkers, The Cell-Phone Users, The Snorers, The Psychos, The Unwrappers, The Program Readers, and the rest of the audience that makes up the 1%.

Please don't e-mail me, saying "I can't believe Tracy holds his audience in such contempt." I don't hold you in contempt. I love you. I love you very much.

But I'm not writing about you, the 99% of you. I'm writing about YOU, the 1%. And I'm willing to wager the 99% know exactly who I'm talking about...

Yes, we do, and we hate them too, we really do. A question though, what are the odds any of the 1% are going to bother reading the Steppenwolf blog?

The Early Exiters: Some of you 1% love to race for the exit during the curtain call, hoping to beat the rush to the parking lot. Guess what: it's not Wrigley Field. You'll still get out pretty quickly. Stay for the curtain call. Because we see you, you know, storming up the aisle, and we hate you.
Maybe we need to print this thing up and start tacking it up in theaters around the country. Maybe we need to email it to our patrons. Maybe we should take out a full-page ad in The Times. Maybe we should try to reach the 1% at their homes, or go give a staged reading of Mr. Letts' post while they're trying to do their jobs. Maybe we should record it and make it a podcast. Or better yet, play it back in full before every performance of every play everywhere this weekend. Whattaya think?
